Argyll & Bute Care & Repair
In February 1999 the Rural Housing Service organised a meeting between community & voluntary organisations in Argyll & Bute, Scottish Homes (now Communities Scotland) and Argyll & Bute Council to discuss what was being done to develop a Care & Repair service in Argyll & Bute. This meeting was in response to approaches to the Rural Housing Service from several communities in Argyll & Bute highlighting housing problems of elderly people in their communities.

Care & Repair services provide help and advice to older and disabled people on how to repair and improve their housing and to access grant funding. Care & Repair can enable older and disabled people to remain in their own homes and communities by improving the quality of their housing. It makes an important contribution to community care policies.

As a result of the meeting the Care & Repair Development Group was formed bringing together community and voluntary organisations with housing associations, Scottish Homes, Argyll & Bute Council, the Health Board and local enterprise company to develop a new service for Argyll & Bute. A Feasibility Study and consultation has been carried out and it is planned that a new service involving community and voluntary organisation representatives in its management will be up and running by Summer 2001. The Rural Housing Service supported the Development Group and carried out the Feasibility Study and consultation.
