Durness
In 1993 the Rural Housing Service conducted a housing needs survey on behalf of the Durness Community. The survey revealed a severe shortage of affordable housing for rent which was forcing young people to leave and contributing to the depopulation and decline of the area.
The survey was used to persuade Scottish Homes (now Communities Scotland) to agree to fund housing in the area. This resulted in 6 new housing association houses being built by Albyn Housing Society.
