The total cost of the project was £676,857. The bulk of the funds coming as Housing Association Grant from Scottish Homes and the remainder a loan from the Dunfermline Building Society.
The building contract was let in April 1993 to two local building contractors to build 6 houses each helping to secure and create local construction jobs. The contract was completed in March 1994 and the houses were let during the summer 1994.
The development was named St. Maelrubha's Close after the local church that is dedicated to St. Maelrubha who lived on a hermitage on Inish Maree in Loch Maree.

New housing in Poolewe
Starting from this first development in Poolewe, Albyn Housing Society have progressed several housing developments in Wester Ross at Aultbea, Gairloch and most recently near Poolewe at Firemore on Loch Ewe.
This last development is the result of the close involvement of the Loch Ewe Action Forum in highlighting local housing needs in the Loch Ewe area.
In 1998 LEAF undertook a survey into the housing needs of the communities of Poolewe, Naast, Inverasdale and Cove. This highlighted the continuing problem of lack of affordable housing opportunities in the area leading to people living in expensive and damp private rented sector housing, in caravans or having to leave the area.
